Tooth operation and updating my studio

A few weeks ago, I had the worst sinusitis ever which affected my tooth. So last Friday, 15/06/2026, I had a surgical tooth extraction done at my dentist. It was uneventful but I was advised to rest through the weekend and to avoid any strenuous activities. Well, I don’t mind the not doing strenuous activity bit but for those who know me, finding me staying still is a bit tricky. I’m constantly doing things. Since gardening is out of the question, I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to update the workstation that I use to edit my music and videos. I’ll be indoors and it’s mainly assembly, wouldn’t be too much of a hard work.

Just like my current workstation, I planned to buy all the different components and assemble them myself. I spent the whole afternoon post-op looking for the needed component capable of editing music and 4K videos smoothly and flawlessly, and I finally settled on this spec:

  • MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI AM5 Motherboard

  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X Processor

  • ACER Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB OC Nitro Graphics Card

  • MSI MAG CORELIQUID I360 120mm Liquid CPU Cooler

  • CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB DDR5 32GB

  • CRUCIAL T710 M.2 Internal SSD - 2TB

  • MSI MPG A850G Modular ATX PSU - 850W

  • Fractal Design North XL Charcoal Black PC Case

  • MSI PRO MP273U 4K Ultra HD 27" IPS Monitor - Black

The components for my new workstation..

This new workstation will replace my current workstation, which was moved to my recording studio on the ground floor, alongside the 25” second screen - hence why I needed a new monitor. Besides, my current main monitor is not a UHD monitor, which I needed to properly edit 4K videos and also my photos. The existing main monitor will then become my second screen. Now, its sole purpose is for music and vocal recording only.

Because I’m keeping the existing keyboard and mouse, I have to buy a more compact keyboard and trackpad combi for my studio and chose the Rii Wireless Keyboard with Trackpad. I also thought I might as well upgrade my microphone, so I settled for the AKG C114.

All the components which was ordered from different retailers arrived the next day as scheduled. As for the Windows 11, I just created a boot disk and purchase the license directly from Microsoft.

In the meantime, I managed to meal prep my lunch box to take to work, where I made Braised Pork Belly Slices with Noodles and Pak Choi.

Assembling the workstation itself doesn’t take long, around 30 - 40 minutes. It’s the tinkering with the BIOS settings and installing stuff in it that takes a while.

I must say though, my new workstation is pretty and fits well with the décor of my upstairs studio/study. It’s also much faster and more efficient. My old workstation can take overnight to render 20 seconds of complex 4K video so this new workstation will make music and video editing more efficient. A successful and productive weekend for me!

The actual tooth extraction doesn’t bother me much, I can’t however, say the same about my upgrade project. That’s because it costed me more than 10x compared to my surgical tooth extraction.

Whilst my gums might not hurt, my wallet on the other hand, OUCH!
